2021 started with hopes for recovery, however, ongoing travel restrictions and lockdowns impacted customer demand and the airline continued to fight for survival. We reset PR plans, guided by the mission of Virgin Atlantic’s survival. The team worked 7/7 , lobbying to open the skies, firefighting issues not only around restrictions and refunds but storytelling our viability and defending the reputation of the airline. The team also focussed on brand building telling the stories of our people, who retrained as vaccinators and kept global supply chains open through cargo only flying, transporting crucial medical supplies and PPE for the NHS.
