Matt Brown

Director of Communications & Corporate Affairs , Transport for London

Matt is Director of News and External Relations at TfL, where he runs the organisation's award-winning 24-7 media relations operation and Government Relations, Stakeholder Engagement, Employee communications and Corporate Communications functions. In his ten years at the organisation he has led media and PR work including the launch of London's Night Tube and the 150th anniversary of London Underground, secured primetime documentary series about the Tube, bus drivers and other aspects of TfL's work and has handled everything from royal visits to crisis comms around strikes and terror attacks. Over the last two years Matt has played a key role in TfL's communications response to the pandemic. Before TfL, Matt worked for the Mayor of London's Press Office; two years under Ken Livingstone and two years under Boris Johnson. He has also worked in communications for the children's charity Barnardo's and for the online political think tank openDemocracy. After TfL won PRWeek's Best In-House team in 2019, Matt was in 2020 awarded the Mark Mellor Award for Outstanding Contribution to the PR Industry by the PRCA. In 2021 he joined the Board of the Independent Press Standards Organisation (IPSO).
