Matthew Houlsby

Matthew leads Madano's Net Zero Transition Practice, which works with high-profile, innovative, low-carbon-focussed clients, building their profiles with investors, government and the general public. He delivers measurable policy and business impacts, through targeted government, media and digital engagement strategies. Matthew spent twelve years as a civil servant and diplomat at the UK Foreign Office, working at the heart of Whitehall on issues from the UK's trade policy to multilateral diplomacy at the UN, and the UK's relationship with Russia. He also undertook postings to Beijing, where he learned Mandarin, and Baghdad. Matthew ended his time at the Foreign Office as Head of Media and Press Secretary to three consecutive foreign secretaries, including Boris Johnson. Since leaving government he has worked for several communications consultancies, with a range of clients, from major international corporates, including in the aviation, energy, and financial sectors, to central and regional governments and agencies in the UK and overseas. Matthew has worked on global digital and traditional media influencing projects, crisis communications, reputational management, individual and organisational profile raising, and major change communication programmes. He brings years of experience of working with the highest levels of corporate, government and political leaders to deliver impactful change through powerful communications campaigns.
