Battery Breakdown - Scott's Story

Electrical Safety First

Our Battery Breakdown campaign continues to force real behavioural change, challenges existing regulation, and reaches audiences in a way few other campaigns manage.

For a relatively small outlay in terms of budgets this campaign has transformed a once-emerging issue, barely recognised by the public, into a headline-grabbing, action-driving movement and driven up public awareness and lobbying power of Electrical Safety First like never before. Our objective to "position ourselves as the leading voice in this space" was also achieved by the significant volume of incoming requests for interview or comment from journalists.

We have recruited a coalition of campaign supporters, comprising more than 500 local councils and 100 organisations involved in public safety, consumer protection, health, housing, insurance, battery recycling, and active travel. These include prominent voices such as the National Fire Chiefs Council, Brompton Bicycles, Which? and Zurich.

The outcomes achieved so far have moved the needle for consumer safety through raised consumer awareness and shining a spotlight on a growing issue of concern, but also through the introduction of a major Parliamentary Bill that seeks to address the problem.

To this day we continue to work with several families affected by these fires as the Bill progresses through Parliament, giving them a platform to share stories of their loved ones in the hope of achieving real change. The work of this campaign was strategic, impactful but above all life-saving.
