Jornada Retro (Retro Matchday)
LALIGA
LALIGA’s Jornada Retro (Retro Matchday) transformed football nostalgia into a live, collective and global brand experience. In a cultural moment where fans increasingly long for the authenticity of past football, LALIGA identified an opportunity to reconnect modern football with its emotional roots and prove that innovation can also come from celebrating legacy. Rather than creating a conventional campaign, LALIGA temporarily transformed an entire matchday into the first themed round in the competition’s history. Clubs, players, broadcasters, sponsors, media and fans were brought together through retro-inspired kits, historic visual codes, classic broadcast graphics, vintage-style balls, archive storytelling and content that celebrated the emotional bond between generations of supporters. The activation unfolded in phases, building anticipation around the idea of a living legacy, expanding the conversation through culture and fashion, and culminating in a fully immersive retro matchday experienced in stadiums, on television and across social media worldwide. Its impact was exceptional: 547 million views, nearly 30 million interactions, a +592% increase in interactions per post versus an equivalent matchday, and 94% positive sentiment. Beyond performance metrics, Jornada Retro successfully shifted the narrative around LALIGA, reinforcing its cultural relevance and emotional connection with fans while demonstrating the power of orchestrating an entire sports ecosystem around one authentic idea. The case proves that nostalgia is most powerful when it is not simply aesthetic, but experiential, legitimate and embedded in the product itself.
