KFC Pickle Puffer

Here Be Dragons

Client: KFC

KFC challenged us to launch its limited-edition Pickle Mania menu in a way that would break through an overcrowded fast-food landscape and resonate with Gen Z audiences. Rather than relying on a traditional product launch, we identified a deeper cultural tension shaping online behaviour: the rise of AI-generated “slop” content – surreal viral ideas that blur the line between real and fake, often leaving audiences disappointed when the fantasy isn’t real. Our response was to turn that tension into the campaign itself. We created the world’s first Pickle Puffer Jacket: a fully wearable puffer filled with real pickle juice and sliced pickles, complete with a functioning straw. Inspired by absurd AI-generated fashion content, the campaign began with an intentionally unbelievable concept video designed to make audiences ask: “Wait… is this real?” But unlike typical AI bait, KFC actually made it. In partnership with Robin Collective, we produced three bespoke jackets for media, creators and fans, transforming an internet fantasy into a tangible product and cultural talking point. The campaign generated global conversation by blurring the line between fake and real, perfectly tapping into Gen Z’s online experience. Results included 186 pieces of coverage, 63 million estimated reach, over 15 million social views and coverage across outlets including CNN, Fox News and Have I Got News For You. More than a stunt, the Pickle Puffer succeeded because it understood internet culture better than traditional advertising – turning AI absurdity into something audiences could actually believe in.
